As fall of 2008 rolled around this year, things began to buzz at Kudzu Minerals headquarters in Fayetteville, Georgia. We were busy labeling and packing up fossil and mineral specimens to take to the Mobile Rock and Gem Society's 14th Annual Jewelry, Gem, And Mineral show. Last year was our first time to attend the show as dealers. We didn't really know what to expect then, but this year we had a better perspective on things. On Wednesday November 26, our rolling caravan pulled out for the long journey to beautiful Mobile, Alabama. I was looking forward to the show, but I must admit, I had beach on my mind! I could almost smell the warm salty air already.

On the way we stopped at a very cool restaurant near LaGrange, Georgia and had an early Thanksgiving dinner. It had all the traditional fixings and was mmm  mmm good!  We also stopped at the famous Priester's Pecans in Fort Deposit, Alabama. Finally it began to look like we were getting close to our destination. I really like the high bridges that look like they go to infinity. That night we headed over to Wintzell's Oyster House for a nice seafood meal. After dinner, we turned in early in anticipation of our big weekend to come. I particularly enjoyed getting to relax with no phone calls, computers, etc. It was nice to just do NOTHING for a change:)

Thursday morning and.....IT WAS TIME TO GO TO THE BEACH!!! We decided to go to historic Dauphin Island. It is the home of Fort Gaines, site of the Civil War Battle of Mobile Bay. It is located on the East end of the island. This island was once occupied by the French, Spanish, and British. It is also the home of the Audubon Bird sanctuary.
